Amazing!! Where the Baltic and North Seas meet

01:25
Amazing!! Where the Baltic and North Seas meet all about this channel in here https://goo.gl/D1zMrA In the resort town of Skagen you can watch an amazing natural phenomenon. This city is the northernmost point of Denmark, where the Baltic and North Seas meet. The two opposing tides in this place can not merge because they have different densities. The province of Skagen located in Denmark has witnessed the beauty of the convergence of the two seas. It is characterized by a clear line which separates the two water and shows a magnificent display of natural beauty. Also mentioned in holy Koran, this sea meet is due to the difference in density of both sea waters which appear as adividing line on the ocean. There is a clear difference in the color of the waters coming from two different seas. At the headland at Grenen, the northernmost point of Denmark, the North Sea and the Baltic Sea meet. Because of their different densities, a clear dividing line can be seen. As a result of turbulent seas, beachings and shipwrecks were common. These frequent losses combined with the town's strategic location as the gateway to the Baltic led to Skagen being the site of one of Denmark's earliest lighthouses.

The Baltic coast

48:01
This episode presents the natural beauty of the shifting sand dunes of the Curonian Spit, the romantic beaches of the Latvian Baltic Sea and the island worlds of Estonia. Time and again, this deserted and almost untouched nature fascinates. In the winter, ringed seals give birth to their young on the pack ice. In the spring, Konik wild horse stallions fight fierce battles amongst themselves, while colourful European rollers fly through the dune forests. Lynxes wander through the coastal forests and in the orchid meadows turncoats and hoopoes find more than enough food. On the islands around Saaremaa in Estonia, grey seals hunt for fish. They share the archipelago with Europe’s largest tern, the Caspian tern.
Baltic sea winter navigation

08:53
Winter 2017, Bay of Bothnia, Baltic sea. Arrival to ice covered area. Meeting icebreakers Oden and Polaris. During mild winters like this one, the south westerly winds tend to pack the ice to the most northern part of Bay of Bothnia. Therefore areas around Kemi 1 lighthouse are very difficult to penetrate even for the strongest ships without icebreaker assistance. Usually Ice class 1A or higher (Finnish/Swedish) or equalent is required for entering the areas. Ice thickness of 70-100cm is common. Packed ice and ridges may result in ice thickness of several meters in some places. Several icebreakers operate in these areas and ships are guided to predefined routes for possible later assistance. Check out Polaris making "summer conditions" for the assisted vessel in the video!

Weird Borders: Why Countries Have Pieces Detached

05:02
Ever wondered why a part of Russia is detached from the rest? There are a lot of weird borders in the world, and often the reason is that a country wanted access to the sea and fight like crazy to get it. They ignore any reasonable boundary between countries in exchange for a bizarre panhandle, or sometimes even cutting off parts of other countries to create a strange border situation called enclaves, which is when a part of a country is only reachable by land through other countries. This video goes over 3 bizarre border situations including why Russia has an the kaliningrad exclave, which is a result of a chain of events in world war 1 and world war 2 in which germany had a strange border where east prussia was an exclave cut off by the danzig corridor, which actually led to world war 2. There is also Angola's exclave of Cabinda cut off by the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This weird border is a by product of the scramble for Africa. Finally there is Croatia, which looks like it is taking all of Bosnia and Herzegovina's coastline until you look closely and notice a strange border strip which gives Bosnia ad Herzegovina a 20 kilometer coastline and detaches a piece of croatia. This weird border is a quirk of history, where the land in the balkans changed hands multiple times. Two Corrections: Poland was RE-created after ww1 as it was previously occupied by Germany and Russia. Also the video is a bit vague on who started ww2. It was Germany. As well Danzig is used as the name for the city of Gdansk because that is what it was at the time. It is bordered to the north by the Gulf of Finland, to the west by the Baltic Sea, to the south by Latvia (343 km), and to the east by Lake Peipus and Russia (338.6 km). Across the Baltic Sea lies Sweden in the west and Finland in the north. The territory of Estonia consists of a mainland and 2,222 islands and islets in the Baltic Sea,covering 45,339 km2 (17,505 sq mi) of land, and is influenced by a humid continental climate. After centuries of successive Teutonic, Danish, and Swedish rule, Estonians experienced a national awakening that culminated in independence from the Russian Empire towards the end of World War I on 24 February 1918. During World War II, Estonia was then occupied by the Soviet Union in 1940, then Nazi Germany a year later and again in 1944 establishing the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic. In 1988, during the Singing Revolution, the Estonian SSR issued the Estonian Sovereignty Declaration in defiance of the illegal Soviet rule. Estonia then restored its independence during the 1991 coup by the Soviets on the night of 20 August 1991. Estonia lies on the eastern shores of the Baltic Sea immediately across the Gulf of Finland from Finland on the level northwestern part of the rising East European platform between 57.3° and 59.5° N and 21.5° and 28.1° E. Average elevation reaches only 50 metres (164 ft) and the country's highest point is the Suur Munamägi in the southeast at 318 metres (1,043 ft). There is 3,794 kilometres (2,357 mi) of coastline marked by numerous bays, straits, and inlets. The number of islands and islets is estimated at some 2,355 (including those in lakes). Two of them are large enough to constitute separate counties: Saaremaa and Hiiumaa.A small, recent cluster of meteorite craters, the largest of which is called Kaali is found on Saaremaa, Estonia. Estonia is situated in the northern part of the temperate climate zone and in the transition zone between maritime and continental climate. Estonia has four seasons of near-equal length. Average temperatures range from 16.3 °C (61.3 °F) on the Baltic islands to 18.1 °C (64.6 °F) inland in July, the warmest month, and from −3.5 °C (25.7 °F) on the Baltic islands to −7.6 °C (18.3 °F) inland in February, the coldest month. The average annual temperature in Estonia is 5.2 °C (41.4 °F).[97] The average precipitation in 1961–1990 ranged from 535 to 727 mm (21.1 to 28.6 in) per year Snow cover, which is deepest in the south-eastern part of Estonia, usually lasts from mid-December to late March. Estonia has over 1,400 lakes. Most are very small, with the largest, Lake Peipus, being 3,555 km2 (1,373 sq mi). There are many rivers in the country. The longest of them are Võhandu (162 km or 101 mi), Pärnu (144 km or 89 mi), and Põltsamaa (135 km or 84 mi). Estonia has numerous fens and bogs. Forests cover 61% of Estonia. The most common tree species are pine, spruce and birch. Phytogeographically, Estonia is shared between the Central European and Eastern European provinces of the Circumboreal Region within the Boreal Kingdom. The Baltic: A Sea in Peril

34:23
Because it is almost entirely enclosed, the Baltic Sea is the world's most fragile and most polluted bodies of water. It receives pollution from nine countries that have widely disparate natural resources, economies, social structures and mores. Some states are active in protecting the environment, but others are not. With these geographical circumstances, the Baltic suffers from pollution, utrification, invasive species, oil spills, and dumped World War II chemical weapons. As a result, it has more than 800 toxic hot spots. Under the patronage of His All Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch and His Excellency Mr. Romano Prodi, former President of the European Community, in this film theologians, scientists, policy makers, environmentalists and journalists generate practical initiatives to protect the Baltic. It illustrates the ecological damage in the Baltic as well as the considerable efforts underway to heal it. In addition, it explores the paticipants' continuing quest for a wisdom-based environmental ethos for the world.

Denmark

Denmark is a Scandinavian country in Northern Europe and the senior member of the Kingdom of Denmark. It is the southernmost of the Nordic countries, southwest of Sweden and south of Norway, and bordered to the south by Germany. Denmark borders both the Baltic and the North Sea. The country consists of a large peninsula, Jutland (Jylland) and many islands, most notably Zealand (Sjælland), Funen (Fyn), Vendsyssel-Thy, Lolland, Falster and Bornholm, as well as hundreds of minor islands often referred to as the Danish Archipelago. Denmark has long controlled the approach to the Baltic Sea; before the digging of the Kiel Canal water passage to the Baltic was possible only through the three channels known as the "Danish straits". Denmark is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system of government. Denmark has a state-level government and local governments in 98 municipalities. Denmark has been a member of the European Union since 1973, although it has not joined the Eurozone. Denmark is a founding member of NATO and the OECD. Denmark is also a member of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). As an OSCE participating State, Denmark's international commitments are subject to monitoring under the mandate of the U.S. Helsinki Commission. Denmark, with a mixed market capitalist economy and a large welfare state, ranks as having the world's highest level of income equality. Denmark has the best business climate in the world, according to the U.S. business magazine Forbes. From 2006 to 2008, surveys ranked Denmark as "the happiest place in the world," based on standards of health, welfare, and education. The 2009 Global Peace Index survey ranks Denmark as the second most peaceful country in the world, after New Zealand. Denmark was ranked as the least corrupt country in the world in the 2008 Corruption Perceptions Index, sharing a top position with Sweden and New Zealand. The national language, Danish, is close to Swedish and Norwegian, with which it shares strong cultural and historical ties. 82% of the inhabitants of Denmark and 90.3% of the ethnic Danes are members of the Lutheran state church. As of 2009, 526,000 persons (9.5% of the Danish population) were either immigrants or descendants of recent immigrants. Most of these (54%) have their origins in Scandinavia or elsewhere in Europe, while the remainder originate mainly from a wide range of Asian countries. ( source Wikipedia )

Estonia's president on security in the Baltic Sea region

57:32
Estonia is one of the Baltic states, a NATO and EU member, Estonia is a key player in Europe’s relationship with Russia and in developing a security policy that tackles this relationship. The Estonian experience with its neighbor to the east, perspectives on how to approach hybrid security threats, and views on how to articulate current security policy challenges, are of high importance and interest both to the Nordic countries and the rest of Europe. On October 16th, we have the pleasure of welcoming the president of Estonia Ms. Kersti Kaljulaid to address these issues and more in a public lecture at NUPI. Chair is Senior Research Fellow and Head of NUPI's Cyber Security Centre, Niels Nagelhus Schia.

США провели разведку у границ РФ/US conducted reconnaissance at Russian borders

01:26
Two aircraft of the U.S. air force held on Wednesday, radiation and technical intelligence near the Russian border on the Baltic sea in connection with information on elevated levels of radioactive iodine-131 in the atmosphere of several European countries. So, the American aircraft WC-135C tail number and call sign 62-3582 BING88 intended to detect traces of nuclear weapons tests or radiation leak, which took off from an air base Mildenhall in the UK, spent many hours monitoring the flight at the North-Western borders of Russia in the Baltic region. With him in intelligence breaches was involved in electronic reconnaissance aircraft of the U.S. air force RC-135W tail number and call sign 62-4138 ABILO87, which also took off from an air base in Mildenhall. He conducted radio intelligence, particularly off the coast of the Kaliningrad region and Pskov region where on Wednesday began large-scale exercises of airborne troops of Russia and Belarus. They were involved a considerable force of air and space troops of Russia, including fighter jets, helicopters and military transport aircraft.

baltic and north seas meet underwater

02:01
baltic seas and north seas meet underwater This is an urban legend. The picture shown is not the Baltic Sea and North Sea, and the border shown is not due to salinity gradient. The picture is from Alaska, showing where dirty glacial meltwater was flowing into the open ocean. It's a temporary phenomenon caused by sediment washed into the ocean -- microorganisms thrive on the nutrients. The color is not due salinity. There is no such border between the North Sea and Baltic Sea. It's an urban legend spread by Reddit. Waters of different salinity levels will mix quite easily when exposed to disturbances from wind, waves, and current. Salinity separation phenomena like haloclines are only stable in low-energy systems like caves or when constantly regenerated by persistent effects like surface evaporation. In either case, the halocline is a horizontal boundary (eg gravity puts the lighter fluid on top), not a vertical line like is shown in the picture.
